Edwina’s time in the city during the summer was relatively uneventful. She experienced firsthand how difficult things could be for submissives via the checkpoints and, after a short adjustment period, she fell into something of a routine. She’d even managed to land herself a contract with plenty of time to spare. Possibly, the most surprising thing about being here was the fact that the people she recognized from Mayfair all seemed to have come from different points in time.

Personality:
Kind-hearted: Friendly and sweet, Edwina is someone who enjoys meeting new people and getting to know them, regardless of social standing. She is shown, time and again, to be open and forthcoming with the onslaught of suitors traipsing in and out of her life as a result of being named her season’s Diamond. She enjoys talking about herself, yes, but she enjoys learning about other people just as much- if not more. Early in the season, Anthony asks to escort her to the races, to which she replies that she already has an escort, but should be free in December- if she’s not already married. Anthony shows up at the event and inserts himself into the outing, and Edwina happily spends a good portion of it chatting it up with him while her actual escort is distracted with an errand by Anthony himself. When Anthony attempts to gift her a pony after misunderstanding a comment she’d made, she patiently explains that the horse she’d been talking about was a favorite character in a book. She also defended Anthony’s actions to Kate later, explaining that he’d only wanted to spend time with her and that Kate herself wouldn’t allow him any other way to do so. During a visit with the Queen, her mother and her aunt, the King came in, delighted by the fireworks and wanting to know if there would be any more. He became agitated when a footman tried to take him away to bed, but Edwina stepped in, cheerfully encouraging him to go and get some rest. Later still, Edwina herself lured both Kate and Anthony to the church under false pretenses. When they arrived, she explained that she could not marry Anthony because it would be a betrayal to herself. Further still, she told Kate that she had always given Edwina what she wanted- not what Edwina wanted.

Naive: For the most part, Edwina has been sheltered from the reality of her situation by Kate and their mother. They’ve raised her to be the perfect little debutante, and later, to become the perfect wife. Initially, her desire to make a fine match with an upstanding, titled man is at war with her desire to find a true love match. And initially, she seems to believe that she can truly find both of these things as long as she works hard enough to present herself as someone that that hypothetical man cannot live without. She’s kept in the dark about a lot of things, up to and including an arrangement between Kate and the Sheffields, stating that Edwina needs to marry a quality man with a title. When the arrangement is revealed, Kate asked her if she loves Anthony, and Edwina said yes because he defended their family so nobly, revealing that she’s apparently confused her sense of familial duty with love.

Sensitive: While she largely presents a happy, sunny face to the world, Edwina is filled with doubt and worry, unsure about whether or not she’ll truly be able to succeed in the one task she’s been preparing for her entire life. On at least one occasion, she expresses these feelings to Kate, stating that she wishes there was a way to truly know how Anthony feels about her, or wondering aloud about why he hasn’t proposed. The discovery of the arrangement with her grandparents upsets her, and she confronts Kate, stating that she wishes her sister had trusted her with the truth. When she does eventually discover the truth about Kate and Anthony’s relationship, Edwina becomes angry at her sister for keeping such a thing from her.

Self-critical: There are a number of occasions when Edwina finds herself wondering about Anthony’s true feelings toward her, and her doubts stem from the worry that she might not be good enough for someone from such a good family. She tries to present the best face possible when interacting with Anthony (and everyone, really), while inwardly holding herself to very rigid standards. While visiting Aubrey Hall, she is initially convinced that a proposal is as good as hers. But by the second night, that proposal she’s been dreaming of still hasn’t come and Edwina is visibly worried that she might have said or done something wrong, or that his affections for her might have changed. She also believed that Kate herself might have something to do with the situation and asked her to spend time with Anthony, believing that spending time together might help the two of them to learn to get along. At the end of the visit, as they were preparing to leave, she is speaking to Kate again, and muses that his feelings must not have been there after all. While dealing with the fallout of the aborted wedding, Edwina becomes visibly irritated at herself, wondering how she’d been so blind to what was right there in front of her face the entire time.

Powers and Abilities: Edwina speaks French, Greek, Latin, Marathi and Hindustani. She can play the sitar, maruli and pianoforte, and is well-versed in all the proper dances for English balls, thanks in no small part to Kate’s assistance.
